Calloway Consolidated Group Inc. dba Five Guys Burgers and Fries experienced a 62.03 percent average annual revenue increase over the past three years. Calloway now has nine Five Guys locations open — eight of them in Jacksonville and one in St. Augustine.

The company has a development agreement with Arlington, Va.-based Five Guys Inc. to develop 25 restaurants in Northeast Florida, so the growth of this company is expected to continue. Calloway now has more than 200 employees, and that number should grow to nearly 300 by the end of 2010. Two restaurants are under construction and another two should open by the end of the year, said co-owner Chris Calloway.

“We preach a fanatical focus on serving the customer and we try to keep the morale high and people motivated and empowered to make decisions that improve the business,” he said.

The key is focusing on what you do best, Calloway said.

“Hamburger and french fries — that’s the all-American meal. They haven’t changed the menu since Five Guys opened in 1986. The philosophy is, ‘We cook the best burgers and fries and have a high quality and the best value.’ So many people lose focus of what their core brand is.”

Mark Janasik, vice president of operations, said training and development, as well as practicing the company’s core values, enable the company to be successful.

“It’s our belief that if we get the right culture, the rest will follow,” Janasik said.
